We all enjoyed Antonio Sabato, Jr. shaking his thing on Dancing with the Stars 2014 with partner Cheryl Burke, but how would you like it if Antonio showed up at your front door to do some home repairs??? We definitely would not be complaining and that is exactly what he is doing as host of the TV show Fix It & Finish It! It has been a very busy fall for Antonio Sabato Jr., but he took some time out of his busy schedule to talk to us about the show Fix It & Finish It and making it all work while dancing his way to an eighth place on DWTS 2014. Todd, Gossip & Gab: First of all, congratulations on a good run on Dancing with the Stars. What was that experience like for you?
Antonio: Thanks! It was exciting, crazy, stressful, fun and a lot of hard work. I’m not a dancer so just learning the steps and how to move my body was a challenge. Thank goodness I had a good teacher.
Todd, Gossip & Gab: For those that have never seen “Fix It & Finish It”, tell our readers what the show is about.
Antonio: It’s a renovation show where we surprise a family each morning and proceed to transform a room or outdoor space or whatever most needs doing. By days end, the new space is complete and revealed to the family often with very emotional results. The show is in syndication around the country and we do five shows a week. It has grown to not only be about transforming a space but about transforming lives too. I love it!
Todd, Gossip & Gab: What was it like juggling this show and your busy schedule while being on DWTS?
Antonio: Insane! My Fix It and Finish Family graciously adjusted the shooting schedule so Cheryl and I could have some time to dance during the shooting day then I’d fly back to LA from the east coast on Saturdays, rehearse Saturday night and Sunday and the show was live on Monday night. Right after the show, I’d be on a redeye back to Memphis, Cleveland or wherever. It was a difficult schedule to keep no doubt.
Todd, Gossip & Gab: What can we expect to see on some upcoming episodes of “Fix It & Finish It”?
Antonio: We have some really emotional shows coming up filled with joyous moments and some pretty spectacular reveals as well. Our designers are so good!
Todd, Gossip & Gab: What is the craziest project you have encountered on the show?
Antonio: I think the craziest was turning a garage into a dining room! The transformation was unbelievable.
Todd, Gossip & Gab: Through all the different projects and renovations you have done on the show, what is your most favorite?
Antonio: That’s like asking me to pick my favorite child! There are so many families that we’ve helped and miracles have happened, so I can’t possibly pick just one.
Todd, Gossip & Gab: Any other projects in the works, besides dancing on the DWTS finale?
Antonio: I’ll be shooting episodes of Fix It until April or May of next year – we’re doing 150 shows. I’d like to find a way to fit in some TV guest appearances or a film but schedules would have to work out perfectly for that to happen. I am developing a film that I hope to get made sometime in 2015.
